Read Fort Worth’s next iteration was unveiled at a key community stakeholders luncheon titled “Mobilizing the Next Phase: Our Collective Journey to 100x25.”
“Read Fort Worth has big, audacious goals around school readiness and third-grade reading,” Executive Director Anel Mercado said. “We’ll tackle them by working alongside our community through our Collaborative Action Networks. Together, we can make a powerful difference in these areas.”
Read Fort Worth mobilizes educators, funders, government, businesses, parents and community organizations to see that 100 percent of Fort Worth ISD third-graders read at a college-ready pace by 2025 in support of the school district’s 100x25FWTX Initiative. The ability to read on level by third grade is critical to lifelong learning. Third grade is the time when schooling transitions from learning to read to reading to learn. Children not reading on level in third grade are four times more likely to not graduate high school, with starker disparities for minority students not reading at a college-ready pace.
